Who/what is Slinky?
You may think that Slinky is perhaps a cute adorable character, alias or something else, but the truth is in fact rather boring.... we are in fact a video production company based in Birmingham, England.
Why hangman?
We love movie trivia here at Slinky, and think that the classic retro word game of hangman is rather underserved on the internet. So here it is in all it's non-flashy, simplistic game glory!
How many questions are in the hangman database?
There are many hundreds of questions and answers in each database, so plenty to keep you busy for many, many hours of procrastination.
What range of movies are in the database?
The word game database has a wide variety of movie genres in it; ranging from comedy films, to drama and documentary. The earliest release year we have is 1934 and the newest is up to the present day!
How often is the game database updated?
We frequently update the database to keep up with new film releases and other movie trivia ideas we have. We don't always announce the updates, but be assured that we're working hard behind the scenes to keep the content fresh.
Do you include movie titles that contain numbers (such as sequels) and other special characters?
Yes. We have converted all numbers to words (for example, 'Jaws 2' becomes 'Jaws Two') and we have stripped all special characters from titles; such as apostrophes, exclamations and question marks.
Do you have any playing tips?
In the English language, the twelve most commonly occurring letters are, in descending order: e-t-a-o-i-n-s-h-r-d-l-u.
Another good strategy for this type of word game is to guess vowels first. English only has five vowels (a, e, i, o and u), and almost every word has at least one.
Is there an app available for iOS or Android?
Slinky's Movie Hangman Game isn't available as a downloadable app at present, and we don't have any plans to release one anytime soon.
The game however does play online fine with most mobile, tablet and desktop web browsers.
As an alternative; if you're using a browser on a smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android), you can save/add the game to your home screen as a Web App. Look out for the share/send icon in the browser and select 'Add To Home Screen'.
I've spotted a nasty bug. Can you squish it?
The game was fuelled by lots of coffee and late nights, so please forgive our sorry souls :)
Yes, we can attempt to squish your said bug. Please let us know through the feedback form (click the tab above) and we'll do our best to exterminate him.
I have an idea for another version/edition of the game. Can I send through my ideas?
We welcome all of your comments and feedback for future consideration. Drop us a line through our feedback form with your thoughts (click the tab above).
Director Adam Mason has been bouncing around the genre for some time now and with his latest feature, Hangman, he raises one very important question- when was the last time you checked your attic? This grim, joyless found footage exercise calls back to the raw brutality of The Poughkeepsie Tapes by way of a Paranormal Activity type of presentation. It will undoubtedly give you cause to make regular attic checks, but is the film as a whole worth your time?
Hangman is told entirely from the perspective of the cameras belonging to the film's antagonist. Out of the gate we as the audience see the very end of the maniac's psychotic ritual and then jump right into his perspective as he chooses his next victim. This time its a family of four as they leave for vacation. He breaks into their car, uses the home function of their GPS to find their house and sets up camp by placing a series of security cameras in various places in the house. He even trashes the house to get under the family's skin to give them the feeling of being violated, and the whole time not realizing that as they go about their lives, the perp is kicking back in their attic, watching their every move, and turning the family against one another.
The thing that Mason does best here is toy with the audience's own fears of having their own privacy toyed with. The paranoia that goes along with feeling as though someone is messing with you, or the uncertainty that follows after you've had your personal property broken into. So, if you're expecting Hangman to at some point turn into a feel-good happy-go-lucky tale of misunderstanding and redemption, you've come to the absolute wrong place. This is a film about the darkness of reality- and it's hard to watch.
For better or worse Mason sees this concept through to the bitter end. Viewers will either be glued to the screen in a sick fascination as to what the killer plans to do next to mess with the family or tired of the slow burn voyeurism on display. A lot of the film is dedicated to just watching the family go about there day to day lives, but with the knowledge that the unwanted houseguest has intervened in that routine in some way- rather it be backwashing into the orange juice, exposing adult toys owned by the teenage daughter, and things made to build tension between the clueless victims. The killer himself tempts fate by walking amongst them in plain site at times but when their backs are turned or hiding in the shadows of the closet right in front of them. These are the moments that make Hangman so uncomfortably watchable. здесь семена сативы
There are also some familiar faces in the crosshairs of our protagonist. The family consists of Jeremy Sisto (Clueless), Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead), Ryan Simpkins (appeared recently in Anguish), and Ty Simpkins (Jurassic World, Insidious and Insidious Chapter 2). Even Amy Smart shows up for an extremely brief appearance. The performances are all pretty standard for this type of film, leaving most of the "heavy" lifting to Eric Michael Cole who plays the hangman. Considering the fact that Cole only speaks actual words two separate times in the film and both times it's the same five letter sentence repeated twice in the scenes it's notable that he comes off as the most memorable. Due in large part to his disturbingly calm and confident creepiness with flashes of true insanity bubbling under the surface.
As skillfully as Mason is able to dig under audience's skin with Hangman, a lot of the film is mired by the standard found-footage trappings. However, the real test to one's ability to enjoy the film is how forgiving they feel while sitting through a film that's almost entirely buildup with little to no resolution. The abrupt and dour ending makes Hangman nearly impossible to recommend, but certainly leaves a fleeting impression.
Horror movies and beer - the only two viable options for entertainment in the wastelands of Nebraska as far as he's concerned. When he's not in the theater he's probably drinking away the sorrows of being a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Raises many points, but few come through very clearly. One is that people don't trust one another; there needs to be proof of intent for everything. Another is that the justice system is a failure, another that society as a whole is apathetic, cynical, selfish. But offers no viable solution or alternative to these issues.
Character's thumb cut off, with heavy bleeding. Character shot in head (head covered by cloth bag). Characters abducted, imprisoned, chained, handcuffed. Spoken descriptions of a teen girl being kidnapped, killed. Images of bunker where she was held. Character zapped with cattle prod. References to the movie Saw.
Parents need to know that American Hangman is a thriller about a kidnapper (Vincent Kartheiser) who tries to set the record straight on a murder by holding a "trial" via social media. Expect graphic violence: A thumb is cut off (with heavy bleeding), and a character is shot in the head (the head is covered by a cloth bag). Characters are also imprisoned, handcuffed, chained, and zapped with a cattle prod. There are verbal descriptions of a teen girl being kidnapped and killed, as well as some brief sex-related talk. Language also includes frequent use of "f--k," "s--t," and more. The film's ideas aren't always terribly original or concise, but its execution is satisfying and enjoyable; Donald Sutherland co-stars. In AMERICAN HANGMAN, Ron (Paul Braunstein) and Judge Straight (Donald Sutherland) are abducted. They're handcuffed and held in a basement, cameras pointed at them. Their abductor (Vincent Kartheiser), who keeps to the shadows, tells them that they have five minutes to figure out their connection. The judge gets the answer right, but the abductor still shows that he's prepared to commit brutal acts of violence. Slowly, the plot is revealed. That morning, a man was put to death for the kidnapping and murder of a teen girl; the two men's abductor insists that the wrong man died for that crime, and he intends to put the judge on trial for this deadly error. The "trial" will be streaming online, and viewers will be the "jury," with the capability to object or sustain, as well as to render a verdict. But if the judge can keep his wits, there may be a way out.
This modest but pessimistic drama about social ills may feel a little familiar, but the intelligent banter, a superior central performance, and one or two likable supporters keep it crackling along. Written and directed by Wilson Coneybeare, American Hangman follows in the footsteps of many other recent movies that use social media and the internet to demonstrate society's cynicism, selfishness, and apathy -- and it can be a bit much. But at least the movie also builds a rhythm, doling out information and surprises slowly, so that it becomes somewhat pleasurable as well.
