I have tried a lot to remove Lavasoft Ad-Aware secure search from my browser but I am unable to so. I have received this adware from uTorrent application. Please help me in removing the extension from my Mozilla browser as it's like Hijacker and making me worried. And it's a security flow in the Mozilla Firefox and many people have problem in dealing with this. Please check the below links about my problem that I want to convey..1) -adaware-secure-search/2) -getting-rid-of-secure-search/3) -US/questions/1049990

All the above mentioned are very complicated for the user So I urge you to FIX this Issue as early as possible. As it is very annoying to have a unknown search engine without your consent. And Let me know as early as possible.

I have deleted that file 0xphi3ajdlo.js and then went to options>search>Removed that stupid search engine and restarted Mozilla Firefox and now it is working fine and My Mozilla Firefox is now Hijacker free.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 28.0 r0 by removing it with this tool : -player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.htmlIf you use it Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.154 Current Version 1: Select Operating SystemStep 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .)Note: Other software is offered in the download.

I have reinstalled the mozilla firefox early but it didn't worked for me. This Ad aware is hidden somewhere in my PC and it is difficult to remove as I have uninstalled the Lavasoft Web Companion from my PC earlier and then I noticed this problem.

You can look for a file named dsengine.js in these locations. You should only find channel-prefs.js in the "defaults\pref" location.Any file found here apart from channel-prefs.js is suspicious. You can check the content of the file in a text editor (use open with and do not double-click the file).

Adaware, previously known as Lavasoft,[3] is a software development company that produces spyware and malware detection software,[4] including Adaware. It operates as a subsidiary of Avanquest, a division of Claranova.[2]

Adaware's headquarters are in Montreal, Canada, having previously been located in Gothenburg, Sweden since 2002. Nicolas Stark and Ann-Christine kerlund established the company in Germany in 1999 with its flagship Adaware antivirus product. In 2011, Adware was acquired by the Solaria Fund,[5] a private equity fund front for entrepreneurs Daniel Assouline and Michael Dadoun, who have been accused[6] of selling software that is available for free, including Adaware antivirus prior to acquiring the company itself.

An anti-spyware and anti-virus software program, Adaware Antivirus, according to its developer, supposedly detects and removes malware, spyware and adware, computer viruses, dialers, Trojans, bots, rootkits, data miners,[citation needed], parasites, browser hijackers and tracking components.[9] Adaware Web Companion, a component of the Adaware antivirus, is frequently packaged alongside potentially unwanted programs. Adaware accomplishes this by striking deals with malware operators and site owners to distribute its software in exchange for money. Adaware Web Companion is known to collect user data and send it back to remote servers.

Adaware antivirus was originally developed, as Ad-Aware, in 1999 to highlight web beacons inside of Internet Explorer.[citation needed] On many websites, users would see a tiny pixelated square next to each web beacon, warning the user that the computer's IP address and other non-essential information was being tracked by this website. Over time, Ad-Aware added the ability to block those beacons, or ads.

In the 2008 Edition, Lavasoft bundled Ad-Aware Pro and Plus for the first time with an antivirus scanner,[10] which used the Avira engine[11]and this arrangement continued for a few years.[12] Starting with Ad-Aware version 10, the Bitdefender antivirus engine was used instead.[13][14][15]

According to PC World Magazine, an older version of Ad-Aware, the Anniversary Edition, could locate only 83.6% of malware in a comparative test carried out by the security firm AV-TEST.[16] However, it stated that no such tests have been run on the newest version. Neil J. Rubenking at PCMag performed a lab test on version 8.3, where Ad-Aware scored 9.2 points, beating the previous top score of 9.1.[17]

In July 2013, Adaware Antivirus Free was listed as having been downloaded a total of 450 million times from the Lavasoft site, including over 387 million times from Download.com as of December 2014[update].[18] According to OPSWAT, in January 2015, Ad-Aware had less than 1% of market share globally.[19] Paid versions of the product are being competed from low-cost or free products, such as Microsoft Security Essentials.[16]

The company was acquired in January 2011, as Lavasoft, by the Solaria Fund, a private equity fund,[5] front for Daniel Assouline and Michael Dadoun, key people of UpClick and Interactive Brands.[20] SC Magazine reported that Lavasoft had been acquired by the same entrepreneurs who have been accused of selling software that is available for free to unwitting users under the guise of premium support,[21] including the free version of Lavasoft's security program prior to acquiring the company itself.[6] Security consultant Dancho Danchev has documented this controversy.[22]

Additionally, Danchev has reported in 2013 that Lavasoft was used to hide hard-to-uninstall programs into third-party software to trick the users in installing them, like in the K-Lite Codec Pack, and the Lavasoft Web Companion changed your browser without the user's permission. Although the company shields itself behind the complete legality[clarification needed] of bundled software and claims that their software is only used to fight malware, there are users who have branded their products as malware.[23]

In February 2015, it was reported by CERT Coordination Center, that a new security feature in Ad-Aware Web Companion was implemented with Komodia SSL Digestor, one of Komodia's public SDKs, the company behind the Superfish security incident in Lenovo machines.[24][25][26]

This latest version of Ad-aware SE runs faster than previous versions, and it finds and deletes even more illicit programs that track your surfing and cause many of those annoying pop-up ads. With its light use of resources and thorough scans, Ad-aware also beats paid antispyware programs, such as McAfee AntiSpyware. In addition to providing a more robust scanning engine, Ad-aware now sports a sleek new interface that makes the program more attractive and extremely simple to use. Ad-aware's custom skins let you change the look and feel of the app in a variety of ways.

Downloading and installing Ad-aware SE Personal took only a few minutes. It's best to run a full system scan the first time you use Ad-aware. After that, it's much faster to use the Smart Scan option, which checks only files that have recently changed on your hard drive. Both the free and paid versions of Ad-aware are highly configurable, with more options and choices than you'd expect. The default settings work great with most systems, though, and unless you have an unusual situation, you shouldn't have to fiddle with any settings.

If you've been using your PC on the Internet without any spyware protection, you'll probably be amazed at how many offending programs Ad-aware finds. Unfortunately, the process of removing offending apps with Ad-aware can be confusing at times because Ad-aware doesn't provide much helpful information about the suspect spyware it marks for quarantine. For example, it doesn't identify which applications might need a suspected spyware/adware component in order to run. But don't worry, Ad-aware doesn't entirely remove the spyware, just quarantines it in a secure folder, so if for some reason you actually needed one of those adware components, you could easily reinstall it later within Ad-aware.

In testing performed by CNET Download.com, Ad-aware SE Plus performed one of the fastest full-system scans, clocking in at mere 11 minutes, 30 seconds. It was also one of the most accurate, with Ad-aware identifying the biggest threats in our test group. Ad-aware also picked up one item that appeared to be a false positive not detected by any of the other programs in our tests. In the end, Ad-aware SE Plus left only a couple of fairly harmless spyware elements on our test machine.

Our only gripe is with regard to Lavasoft's paltry support options--both free and paid. E-mail technical support is not available for the free version, of course, but the online support area on Lavasoft's Web site is also underwhelming to say the least. That said, the program is pretty easy to use and the integrated help system is complete and should be able to answer most questions.

The 5.8 MB stub installer (Adaware_Installer.exe) makes the setup smooth and generally failproof. At this stage the Wizard suggests you select the product language out of the 6 ones available (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Simplified Chinese), and offers an opt-in install of Ad-Aware Safe Browser add-on. The setup was quick and caused no problems at all.

The product has low effect on computer performance: we noticed neither system slowdowns nor boot/shutdown time increase. Things certainly change during scans, which is basically normal. However, the time it takes for Ad-Aware Pro Security to run full computer scan is not on the plus side of this utility. In our case the full scan lasted for a little under 2 hours (1 hour 49 minutes), which is a benchmark close to disastrous. Moreover, resource consumption and CPU heat went up significantly during this task. A subsequent quick scan was amazingly short though, fitting into literally seconds. Some good news in this regard could be the options on Performance Settings page which allows specifying performance level for different types of scans (Quick, Full, and Custom). Therefore, resource friendliness should be okay here unless you get your entire system scanned frequently, with default settings unaltered.
