Welcome to another random edition of my newsletter (two months after
my last one). It features
updates on my work and some recent news.
DELPHI (AND CODEGEAR) OWNED BY EMBARCADERO
The sale of all CodeGear assets from Borland to Embarcadero was
completed on June 30th. If you missed this, you can read the
announcement (with links to other sources on my blog):

THE SOCIAL WEB BOOK
While working for a related development project, I've written a book
about online communities. It is called "The Social Web: An
introduction to web 2.0 and its online communities". The book is on
Lulu.com and sells for 14 Euros (printed) and 7 Euros (PDF).
http://www.lulu.com/content/2546948
I've also started a companion blog for the book, at
http://www.socialwebbook.com.
I'll post portions of the book in the blog, along with updated
information. My plan is to keep the two blogs fairly separate
(although I'll occasionally cross-post), so if you are interested in
online communities from a non-developer point of view, you can
subscribe that other blog as well. This is a short quote from the
Introduction:
With this book my goal is to provide a birds-eye view of the social
web, rather than focusing an a specific technology. Along with some
theory, you'll find a lot of practical information, links to useful
sites, and all you'll need to increase your online experience and
create your own online presence, if you don't have one already.
Most of you probably know way more than I've written in the 70 pages
of the book, but I think it provides an interesting summary also for
many IT professionals. Finally, if you have suggestions about how to
promote the book (which is well outside of the Delphi community, in
which I know how to move...) let me know.
DELPHI BOOKS
Of course, my best selling books are the Delphi ones. The current self-
published offering includes
Delphi 2007 Handbook (
http://www.lulu.com/content/1069254)
Essential Pascal (
http://www.lulu.com/content/2398448)
The plan for 2008 includes a "Tiburon Handbook" (the name will be
different) and, possibly, Essential Delphi.
TIBURON IS COMING
The next release of Delphi (focused on Unicode), called Tiburon, is
getting near. Yesterday CodeGear developers started blogging about it,
as you can read on:

DELPHI MENTORING AND TRAINING
The Delphi Mentor consulting service is based on an NNTP server, but
each company
or user gets its reserved and personal newsgroup area. A team of
Delphi experts assists users on their development problems. Read
everything on:
http://www.delphimentor.com
I also offer onsite Delphi training around the world, focusing on new
features of Delphi 2007, Vista support, Web development in Delphi, and
Advanced Object-Oriented Delphi Architectures. Contact me for more
information.
