Dear neighbours / community groups, We had over 40 participants at the
first People's Assembly exploring priorities for the Local Place Plan
for Merchiston, Bruntsfield, Marchmont and Sciennes [Detailed report at
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QfP5eAkcqe2hK4q-BEJH7yaJUwfUu5Meuzn5LuwskTk/edit?usp=sharing].

2. We especially ask if you might be able to circulate the invitation
to a second chance to contribute ideas:
Join in a lively discussion exploring future plans for our
neighbourhood.
The second People's Assembly will be held 1.00pm - 4.00pm Sat 28
February at St Oswald's Centre / The Pianodrome, 41 Montpelier Park,
Edinburgh EH10 4NB. Book via

Zain Cruickshank - an Edinburgh based singer-songwriter - explores
themes of nature, family, love and loss, drawing from a range of
influences that include folk and jazz in Pianodrome Bruntsfield from
1-2pm [free, by donation] followed by free lunch in the North Hall and a
structured discussion facilitated by Kate Nevens 2-4pm.
BACKGROUND: Edinburgh has something special. To south and west of The
Meadows and Bruntsfield Links lie Bruntsfield, Merchiston, Marchmont &
Sciennes - sandstone tenements and terraced homes.
OPPORTUNITY: Help us prepare a Local Place Plan* that captures:
- What works well, what we like about the place we live and work,
- What residents want in 2040 / vision for future developments,
- Ideas for improvements to achieve that vision.
We want our Plan to properly address the climate and nature emergency.
Big changes are coming. Climate disruption means more flooding, energy
challenges, need to discontinue gas for heating - and we need to make
our neighbourhood more resilient.
WHO: Neighbours from Bruntsfield, Marchmont, Sciennes, Merchiston,
Churchhill, Polwarth, Shandon plus surrounding areas such as
Morningside, Grange, Tollcross, Fountainbridge, Gorgie and Dalry to come
and join us. Elected representatives invited.
PRIZE DRAW: Respond to our short SURVEY before Saturday 28 February.
THE VENUE: We have chosen St Oswald's to hold these events to promote
this new community-owned neighbourhood centre. Come and visit the
Pianodrome in the main body of the old Kirk and enjoy a free lunch in
the North Hall.
ACCESS: As it only recently opened, the centre still has some steps in
places. We can assist people in wheelchairs - please say if you have any
special needs when booking.
LUNCH: Yes - there is such a thing as a free lunch! Simple fare of bread
and cheese / hummus - please indicate if you have any dietary
restrictions when booking.
NEXT: We are planning three People's Assemblies - each building on the
community contributions. The third - 1-4pm Sat 28 March ‘26: will share
a draft report to the community and collect feedback and suggestions:

*Any Local Place Plan prepared by local people must be taken into
account by the City Council when preparing City Plan 2040 - an important
planning document, guiding how Edinburgh changes and grows.
The City Plan informs the Council's responds to key concerns such as
providing good places to live and work and is the starting point for
making decisions on whether to approve or refuse planning applications.
Morningside Community Council has already drafted their Plan, Astley
Ainsley Community Trust has submitted their Plan and a focussed Midmar
Paddock Plan has been registered.
