Good afternoon,
I am writing to advise you of upcoming roadworks in the Newington area of the city that will commence on 26 January 2026 and take 16 weeks to complete.
The Contractor for the works is J H Civil Engineering Ltd. A location plan is enclosed for your information.
The works comprise the following:
- Road and partial footway resurfacing of Hope Park Crescent and Summerhall between Buccleuch Terrace and Summerhall Square
- Renewal of traffic signals infrastructure at the junction of Hope Park Cresent, Hope Park Terrace, Summerhall, and Melville
Drive
- Improved pedestrian facilities comprising widened footpaths, continuous footways, shorter crossing points and updated
vehicle crossovers
- Provision of permanent segregated cycle lanes
- Removal of street clutter
The works will be split into various phases, with the footway and traffic signal work being completed first, followed by the road resurfacing.
-
Footway and traffic signals work will be undertaken between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs Monday to Friday.
-
Road resurfacing work will be undertaken overnight between 1900 hrs and 0600 hrs Monday to Friday, with noise restrictions in place after 2300 hrs. Diversion routes will be in operation
to facilitate this work but will be removed during the day. This phase is expected to take no more than seven nights to complete.
A letter informing residents and businesses on affected streets of the works will be distributed next week. They will be kept informed throughout the works
by on-street signage, letters and personal visits from staff or contractors.
Regards,
Alan Parkinson
