The Castle Hotel & Spa is a one-of-a-kind renovated castle oasis perched majestically atop one of the highest points in the region overlooking the historic Hudson River in lower Hudson Valley of Westchester County, New York. No photographing or filming is allowed in the castle. Photo and film shootings are basically subject to approval and charges. Here you will find information on photography permits / film permits. Taking pictures of the outside of the buildings for private use does not require a permit.
Works are currently underway at Dover Castle for a new visitor experience in the castle's northern defences. The route past this area of the site will be closed - along with the medieval tunnels - until the experience launches late next year. You can find out more about the project here.

The tour guides will provide you with a 45-minute tour and narrative of the historic structure. Visitors will be treated to four floors filled with furnishings and artifacts original to the castle. You will see the entrances to many of the secret passages, and of course speculate on their purpose. There are 80 steps up from the Great Hall, so wear your walking shoes!

The castle also displays portraits of scandal-hit Johan Friedrich Struensee and Queen Caroline Mathilde. Caroline Mathilde was married to the controversial King Christian VII and had a fatal love affair with Johan, the king's physician. When King Christian VII became too ill to govern, Struensee led the country for almost two years. He was arrested and executed in 1772, after which Caroline Mathilde was exiled to northern Germany. The portrait of Struensee is from 1824 by Hans Hansen and is a copy of a painting from the hand of painter Jens Juel. The portrait of Queen Caroline Mathilde is from 1771 and was painted by Jens Juel.
We must raise funds to stabilize and prevent further damage to the castle. Attending a performance or event at Bannerman Castle is a fun and meaningful way to support the preservation efforts of Bannerman Island!
An extremely interesting place to visit! The tour included a lovely boat ride on the Hudson River and a guided tour of Pollepel Island and Bannerman's Castle. Unfortunately, we could not enter Bannerman's Castle due to the current fragile state of the castle. Bannerman's Castle is gradually deteriorating due to severe weather conditions. I highly suggest going soon because who knows what will be left of Bannerman's Castle in ten to twenty years from now.
