காஞ்சி என்பது புறத்திணைகளுள் ஒன்று. பகை அரசன் ஒருவன் போர்க்கு வந்துவிட, ஒரு நாட்டரசன், காஞ்சிப் பூவைச்சூடி தன் நாட்டைப் பாதுகாத்தல். முதுமொழிக் காஞ்சி ஒரு துறை. 'முதுமொழிக் காஞ்சி யாவது,அறிவுடையார் குற்றம் நீக்கி, ஆராயும் உலகத்தியலுள் முடிந்த பொருளாகிய அறம் பொருள் இன்பத்தை அறியச்சொல்லுதல்' என்று புறநானூற்றுத் துறைவிளக்கம் பகர்கிறது.

'பலர்புகழ் புலவர் பன்னின தெரியும் உலகியல் பொருண்முடிபு உணரக்கூறின்று' --புறப்பொருள் வெண்பாமாலை.
