How to Download and Install the KONTAKT Factory Library

Step 1: Download the KONTAKT Factory Library

The KONTAKT Factory Library is available as a free download from Native Access, the software manager for Native Instruments products. To download it, follow these steps:

    • Launch Native Access from your applications folder or start menu.
    • Log in with your Native Instruments account credentials.
    • Go to the Not installed tab and locate the KONTAKT Factory Library entry.
    • Click on the Install button and choose a destination folder for the library. Make sure you have enough disk space available.
    • Wait for the download and installation to complete. You can monitor the progress in the Status column.

    Step 2: Load the KONTAKT Factory Library

    Once the installation is done, you can load the KONTAKT Factory Library in your KONTAKT software. There are two ways to do this:

    Using the Libraries Browser

    The Libraries Browser is a convenient way to access all your KONTAKT libraries from one place. To use it, follow these steps:

      • Open the KONTAKT software in standalone mode or as a plug-in in your DAW.
      • Click on the Browse button in the top left corner of the main window.
      • In the Libraries Browser, locate the KONTAKT Factory Library icon and click on it.
      • You will see a list of categories and subcategories of instruments. Click on any of them to expand or collapse them.
      • To load an instrument, double-click on its name or drag and drop it onto the rack.

      Using the Files Browser

      The Files Browser is another way to load instruments from your computer's file system. To use it, follow these steps:

        • Open the KONTAKT software in standalone mode or as a plug-in in your DAW.
        • Click on the Browse button in the top left corner of the main window.
        • In the Files Browser, navigate to the folder where you installed the KONTAKT Factory Library. By default, it should be in one of these locations:
          • macOS: Macintosh HD > Users > Shared > NI Resources > Kontakt 5 > Factory Content
          • Windows: C: > Users > Public > Documents > NI Resources > Kontakt 5 > Factory Content
          • You will see a list of folders and files. Each folder corresponds to a category of instruments. Each file with a .nki extension is an instrument file.
          • To load an instrument, double-click on its name or drag and drop it onto the rack.
