How to activate your Pootle account

Hi Folks,
You are all coming in at a very exciting time for the Linguistic
Team. Not only do we hve the upcoming release of the "Zeitgeist:
Moving Forward" documentary nearly upon us, we are also in the midst
of upgrading all of the tools that we use to help with transcriptions
& translations. We will continue working within the older versions
until the new installations are ready, but at least you won't be taken
by surprise when we are ready to migrate to the most current version.

The first thing we should do is to bring each of you into the programs
so that you can learn how they work and get into some actual
translation tasks.

Below, I will be guiding you into the current installation of Pootle,
our in-house translation-assist program (it makes it very easy to
translate), where some of the most important of all TVP/TZM materials
is already being or is ready to be translated into 79 different
languages, including yours. Pootle currently contains the contents of
both the Venus Project and Zeitgeist Movement websites, the "Activist
Orientation Guide" and "Designing The Future" PDF contents, the
official TZM Newsletter contents and the Moving Forward Press Kit PDF
contents. The most important of these, by far, is the Venus Project
website, which provides a full introduction to the concept of a
Resource-Based Economy to everyone who visits the site. Along with
some important newer items like the Press Kit, we are focused on
getting TVP's website translated and fully proofread into all possible
languages as soon as possible.


Since Pootle is an integral part of the Zeitgeist Movement's main
website, you will first need to be a member of the main site. If you
are not already a ZM website member, you can register at the URL
below.

To activate your Pootle account, log into the main ZM website and then
go to the Pootle activation page at the link below. You must already
be logged into the main site before going to this page or it will not
recognize your ZM username.

Since this will be your first visit to the activation page, the page
will recognize you and automatically send you an activation
confirmation email within 10 - 20 minutes. If it doesn't arrive,
check any Spam or Junk folders in case it was flagged there.

This is the only visit you will need to make to the activation page.
When you are ready to work on translations or just want to have a look
around the program, the main page for Pootle can be found at the URL
below.

Follow the directions in the email to confirm the activation of your
Pootle account and also notice that there is a new Pootle password
there for you to use. After confirming your activation, log into
Pootle using your main site username and the new password. Once logged
in, click on the Change Options link near the top of the page. Select
your chosen language and projects in the left side of the resulting
page and then Save the changes just below those areas (there are
separate Save buttons for each section of the page). Once you have
Saved your selections, I will be able to set up your translator rights
for the projects you've selected, usually within 24 hours. Please note
that you will not be able to access the translation controls of most
projects until after we have set up these translation rights. The
exception to this is the Test Project, noted below.

If you would like to practice using Pootle's controls while you're
waiting for your translation rights to be set &/or before you begin
working on an actual project, we have an area called the "Test
Project" set up for everyone's use, regardless of language. This is
the only area of Pootle where you can access the translation controls
before your translation rights are set. There is nothing in there that
you can damage, so feel free to try everything just to see what it
does.
