Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there's a way to use vector tiles in Mapstore2 v2017.05.00.

I have a Geoserver 2.12 running with TMS service, and I checked the "application/x-protobuf;type=mapbox-vector" setting on the Caching defaults pane. However, I'm not sure if Mapstore is capable of processing TMS, I only see options to add WMS and WTS on the catalog.

This is quite defining for me because I'm trying to show around 100 layers on the map and it's increidbly slow to load and update on zoom refreshes.

Thanks in advance!

Ramiro.

Long story short, there is R&D work going on but no concrete plans.
This will happen for sure in 2018 but I cannot say when as nobody is
funding this at this stage.
Of course this might change quickly if someone comes up with funding for this :)

Regardless of using vector tiles, having 100 layers on a map, is
usually a bad idea.
I cannot suggest anything else at this stage, but I would think harder
about ways to reduce the number of layers.

In the end, with vector tiles you bring more interactivity to the user
by moving rendering-ready vector data to the client but throwing the
whole data for 100 layers on the client is
probably not the right use of vector tiles either.

Food for thought, I'd say..

Simone, thanks for the detailed response!

Indeed you have a point with the idea of reducing the number of layers. However I'm interested on knowing how we can help funding the development efforts for vector tiles in Mapstore.

If you please, contact me directly.
