A few months ago our 12 year old dog died. She was the best dog in the
world--she just was.

I was so bereft I figured the only thing to do was adopt another dog.
So we visited every local shelter we could find and, not finding
anything like the right dog, turned to the internet. I scoured
Petfinders for weeks, showing pictures of dog after dog to my husband
and kids.

One day I found Malka. We adopted her from a rescue in North Carolina
and have had her for about two months.

She is beautiful. Imagine a mix between a Samoyed and a Siberian Husky:
black and silver body, white head, curled white tail like a Sammy's,
and silky soft hair, not as long as a Sammy's and not as short as a
Husky's. She's maybe two years old at most, and not big--only 45
pounds. Medium brown eyes. Loves cold weather. Is possibly the smartest
dog I've ever run into -- also very friendly, remarkably obedient,
house trained. She is perfectly loyal and will not run away when off a
leash. She's spayed and up to date on all her shots.

The only problem is, she can't be trusted with children. She'll be fine
for weeks, but then will bite without provocation. Or, at least,
without any provocation a human being could recognize, anticipate or
prevent.

We have two kids and can't keep Malka, for obvious reasons. She hasn't
done anybody any serious damage yet, but we can't take the chance that
one day, she might.

Needless to say, the kids are upset at the prospect of losing her. We
would prefer not to turn her over to a shelter, but we'll have to if we
can't find a home for her with an adult or a couple **without
children** or other dogs.

If you know anyone who fits the bill, please let me know. I'll be happy
either to email pictures or arrange for them to meet Malka.
