I'm curious about people's take on Pelosi backing Murtha rather than
staying out of the fight. Is there a risk that she will cause a rift
in the party, even before the new Congress takes over? And with the
Democrats riding a way of anti-corruption sentiment, is Murtha the
best candidate?

And if you look away, you'll be doing what they say.
And if you look alive, you'll be singled out and tried.

Must say, I've been wondering similar things. Or is this just Pelosi's
sop to the Out of Iraq Now crowd, given that Murtha reportedly hasn't
got the votes?

I'm trying to believe this isn't a sign of panderings to come.

I couldn't bring myself to vote for Menendez, by the way. I touched the
pad for the Poor People's Party candidate, whose name I've now
forgotten.

Actually, I think it was Brooks. Saw him in a chat lineup on PBS with
all the other non-Repub, non-Dem candidates. A painfully earnest guy
differentiated from his cohorts by virtue of not being a whackjob. But
the fact is that, had the mainstream candidates not both been utterly
unacceptable, I wouldn't have voted for him.
