Hi! I have noticed that download.mapsforge.org is not responding. Maybe there is a temporary problem? Anyway, I'm developing an app and will let the user interact with the download site using a dialog to select and download maps from there. I suppose that is ok?

While I am not running the site, I think this is a very bad idea: as you are already experiencing you cannot rely on an external site for your apps. It will cause you endless complaints and low ratings.

Running your own servers is not that expensive and you have full control over the site.

We do not provide any guarantees regarding the availability of our
download server. Nor do we guarantee scheduled updates of the map files.
Nonetheless, we strive to minimize down times and to provide weekly
updates of the maps. In conclusion, follow Ludwig's advice.

The reason that download.mapsforge.org was not responding was due to a
switch of the domain owner (prior Freie Universität Berlin, now Thilo
and me). We needed to change some DNS entries and it may still take some
time until the new information is spread accross the Internet.

Regards,
Jürgen

Hi and thanks for the respons. I will try to setup a mirror site but that could take a while and until then I'll use your site. My app is more of a hobby project so it doesn't matter if the site goes done now and then.

Anders
