Map Writer - preferred language

Hi,
I tried to create a map from the Athens area in Greece using preferred-language=en:
osmosis --rx file=greece.osm --mw file=athens.map bbox=37.775,23.54,38.173,23.915 map-start-position=37.97152700,23.72652800 preferred-language=en type=hd

But the resulting map shows no english labels. There is no difference to the map using no language preference. I used AdvancedMapViewer.
The osm file I used has lots of tags with the key "name:en", so there is no problem in the osm file.

What did I do wrong?

My command line for creating maps (depending the case) is something like:

osmosis --rx file=country.osm --s --mw file=country.map type=hd bbox=minLat,minLon,maxLat,maxLon map-start-position=lat,lon map-start-zoom=zoom preferred-language=language tag-conf-file=tag-mapping.xml

I never had problems with the languages.
If you are sure that your tags are correct, may be you need to check
the min/max zoom values at both the tag-mapping and render theme you use.
