Thank you for the reference. This is just what I needed. Can you advise what do to if I don't have the .kml of Zilla/Sadar Upazilla? Suppose, I want to add the boundary of Sakhariya Upazilla under Bogra Sadar Upazilla of Bogra District. I searched, but couldn't find a .kml neither of Bogra Zilla nor Bogra Sadar. In such a case, how do I proceed since I cannot match the GIF with an existing boundary?

Please download Google Earth first and download the .kml file (6.8 MB) of all Upazilas of Bangladesh from link I mentioned earlier. Also download উপজেলার তথ্য সম্পর্কীত .csv ফাইল. Follow the instruction mentioned in the page. I hope you will get the solution. Which Upazila's .kml file you need first?

Dear Br. Dawood,

I think it's easier to work with .kml files. If you don't have one, you can mark one in Google Earth by overlaying an image there as Br. Tanzil's tutorial suggests. Overlaying images in Google Map Maker is a bit trickier.

Visit the "Gear" icon on the top-right corner of the screen in Google Map Maker and go to "Labs". You can enable "overlay" feature from there.

Dear Carl,

I am mentioning here the process by which I overlay KML in GMM. Feel free to try it if you feel convenient.

Try uploading it to Google Maps. Use "My Places" > "Create New" > "Import". After upload is finished, when you get back to "My Places" tab and click on the KML you uploaded, you will find "KML" (hyperlink) written below the name of the file you uploaded. Use "Copy link address" by right clicking at the hyperlink and paste it where you need to overlay in Google Map Maker.

Tip: How do you know that you have the right link? - Your overlay will not load unless the link you are using ends with ".kml" at the end. This is how you know you got the right link.

You can use a variety of hosting sites to upload your kml, but you have to get the right link which end in ".kml". Hope this helps, Insha Allah.

Dear Br. Hasan Shahed,

You are right. Shahjahanpur Upazila is now a separate Upazila and not a Union under Bogra Sadar Upazila. There is proof here:  http://www.dcbogra.gov.bd/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=100&Itemid=159 

The link above also names the Unions under the Shahjahanpur Upazila. We have to re-map Bogra Sadar Upazila because the current Bogra Sadar Upazila contains and overlaps with Unions from Shahjahanpur Upazila. Unions under Shahjahanpur Upazila are as follows:

1. আশেকপুর

2. মাদলা

3. মাঝিড়া

4. আড়িয়া

5. খরনা

6. গোহাইল

7. খোট্টাপাড়া

8. চোপিনগর

9. আমরুল

Most of these Unions are currently mapped under Bogra Sadar Upazila due to absense of Shahjahanpur Upazila. The "Complete Upazila Bangladesh.kml" on Mapping Bangladesh site does not have KML of Shahjahanpur Upazila. Br. Tanzil and respected Advocates, please advise.

In your provided KML of Adamdighi Upazila - Unions there is a Santahar Pouroshova and Santahar, both being separate cities. The Union document by Br. Hedayet indicates there are 6 Unions under Adamdighi Upazila. There is Santahar Union but no Santahar Pouroshova. Should Santahar Pouroshova be a locality under Santahar Union then? Or is it to be kept as a separate city?

Br. Tanzil, I would like your opinion on the matter as well.

Dear Arman,

As per map of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (Census 2011), Santahar Pourashava is a separate city consisting of 09 Wards. So we should mark it under City/Town/Village. As per our Union Mapping Regulation, Santahar Pourashava should be marked under Locality as it is combination of Wards.

So please try to talk to the administration of Adamdighi Upazila whether it is under Santahar Union or a separate city.

Yes, I have the statistics downloaded and I saw Santahar Pouroshova as a separate city, hence I asked the question. I will mark Santahar Pouroshova as a locality under Santahar Union for now, if I get news about it being a separate Union I will change it accordingly in the future.

Can someone please upload the .kml file of Keraniganj Upazila? I have tried to extract the .kml file by overlapping Keraniganj Upazila Map on Complete Upazilla Bangladesh.kml but I'm stuck on it. The Upazila Map is hugely misplaced on Bangladesh.kml , I'm not an expert thats why I'm asking help from RER's.

You are trying to match the GIF image with the .kml of Keraniganj Upazila at Google Earth. You can't match it 100% accurately. We got the .kml file from LGED and it has been updated at GMM as per this file. When we will get updated .kml from LGED then we will provide you same.

Actually I forgot to mention the names of Unions inside the boundary of .kml and I am sorry for that. But there is a option at Google Earth to find out the name of Unions. 

Please follow :

01. Please open the .kml of Begumganj Upazila (which I provided you) with Google Earth.

02. Right click inside a boundary of a Union.

03. Select "Save Place As"

04. Then you will get the name of the Union.

05. Select .kml from the drop down menu.

06. Save.

Please try and confirm whether it is OK.
