Hi,

is there by any chance a documented API or protocol for accessing the
GMM backend (essentially the same interface that GMM itself is using)?

If not I think it would be beneficial to have one, as it would permit
the community to implement a non-web-based editor with advanced
features for power users, similar to osm's JOSM. It would be a major
effort to port or develop from scratch, but once operational would
boost productivity and quality significantly. It would also speed up
turnaround times for bugfixes and enhancements, and reduce pressure on
the GMM development team.

Any thoughts about this?

Kind regards
wolf

Hi wolf,
Unfortunately, we do not have any such protocol. This has also been
posted on Issue Tracker here: http://code.google.com/p/google-mapmaker/issues/detail?id=177.
You can star this issue to be apprised of any update.

Regards,
Map Maker Guide.
