Source of GN Boundary Data - Mapping Sri Lanka

Dear All,

I am really appreciating the mapping project to mark GN divisions.
This is a good start keep up mapping GN divisions.
Please read the following comments while mapping GN Divisions:

1. GN division is the smallest administrative entity which is a part of a

Electoral Division / Electoral Ward
Regional Council (Pradeshiya Sabha)
Urban Council
Municipal Council
Divisional Secretariat (DS Division)
Districts
Provinces
Forests Division
Postal Division
Police Division
Judicial Division

2. In order to avoid reworking the incorrect GN Boundaries we should mark the correct boundary based on authentic data:

3. As correctly highlighted Sub Locality / Neighbourhood is the accepted attribute for GN Divisions.

From where we can obtain correct data for GN boundaries:

We need to request from the Survey General Office to officially receive the boundary details

Also, the responsible Ministry is Ministry of Public Administration and Local Government

We should refer the Government Gazettes Notices issued time to time confirming the boundaries.

Also, i am aware the Department of Census and Statistics have used these boundaries practically for Census of Population and Housing in 2011. Hence should all official records of the GN boundaries.

I hope Dihan can give a good initiative as an active team member since I am away from Country all the time

Of course I have the latest GN Division schedule based on official records and few gazette notice for other boundaries.

What i am suggesting is to fully focus on mapping all GN divisions based on authentic data for the entire country based on latest Population Census data base.

Hi Eng. Jayah,

You are correct. And Dihan is already initiated the process. Adding a GND is not easy as drawing a road. Some new mappers spent hours to get it done in Colombo District.

What we are looking for is to make a dialog between Google and Survey department to purchase or any other agreement to get data and upload at once by taking help from the MapMaker engineering team.

Hope this clarifies and we also think this will work and ease our life.

Hello Dihan,

I am back to Google Map Maker! after a 3 years.

Though i was not active in the Map maker i was always getting updated with google news for sri lanka.

Hope this time i can contribute with new reopening of Map Maker for edits.

Just let me know the status of GN boundaries mapping project

Hi,

Does anyone knows if Eastern and northers provinces GN boundary is finalized please? When I checked few years ago with the Surveyor dept, there were some issues (legal issues I suppose).
