Guidelines in adding/changing contents

Dear Mappers,

First of all a big thank you to everyone who are involved in improving the gmaps for Sri Lanka.

I would like to know if there is a guideline that a beginner can follow in adding content. I noticed that there are some guidelines agreed upon, that is being followed by the experienced mappers, 

And would like to follow the same so that i won't be introducing any inconsistencies when mapping.

I'm a beginner and would like to know more about the process from you all. Thanks!

Hi Yajith,

It's great to see you in GMM. I am not an active member of this group, but I have contributed several items to GM.

Anyway, as you hope to be an active member here, I would like to let you know that the Primary Section of our school (Yep, I am a Rahulian too, and I know you from Fb.) is invalidly marked as a duplicate entry of Sujatha Vidyalaya's Primary Section (Someone who didn't know the fact that they're two schools facing each other in the two sides of road, has marked it as a duplicate!!!).

I once tried to correct the things but it didn't work. So, I'd like to suggest you to do something about that as your first task in GMM.

If i'm not mistaken Supun is referring to a location that is near to Rahula Primary.

3rd Link you have shared is in Colombo, and i don't think it is related. However, i also can't locate the "Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary Section" on the map. Perhaps it has already been corrected.

In reality, both primaries are located facing each other on the two sides on the road that runs across. ( The ground and the building complex opposite side of the road in above link is Sujatha primary as far as i know. )

Hope this clarifies. I will leave Supun to further comment on this.

I have missed CMA's earlier mail in this thread. Yes, what Yajith says is correct. The issue is, someone has marked "Rahula College Primary" as a duplicate of "Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary", and we need to correct this.

When we try to select places in the subjected area, below is what appears. Published "Rahula College Primary" in http://goo.gl/76ep2 doesn't appear to be selected.

Maybe this is the reason of the confusion. 

Anyway, as you have mentioned, location looks correct.

Guys, details of the said location has been updated during last month or so.

Before that, when I right-click near the Rahula College Primary, and perform a "Find near this point", "Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary Section" was found, and although "Rahula College Primary Section" was found, it was grayed and warning appeared as "Place marked duplicate", and when I click "view original", I was redirected to "Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary Section".

But as of today, there are "Rahula College Primary Section" and "Rahula College Primary". The latter is marked as a duplicate, which is correct. And surprisingly, "Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary Section" is nowhere to be found!

Am I to understand that someone with the ability to delete places noticed the issue, but gave it a wrong solution (Which was to delete "Sujatha Vidyalaya Primary Section")? Indeed this is confusing!

Hehe. :) Anyway, I'd expect a better UX from GMM, as this is a Google product. Please let them know the problem here.

LOL, sorry for the hard feeling. Answers without context can mean different things. Sorry again.

I'll add the removed place (#3), but I wondered what if it would appear magically again like it disappeared. Then there will be another "duplicate non-duplicate non-non-duplicate" nonsense. I hope that won't happen.

As for #2, I can't see a delete option.

Here are the answers for your queries.

1. This is reported to GMM eng team. Will wait for a resolution.

2. This we cannot do. GMM will taek time to remove them from UI, but it will not be published to Maps.

3. Please do if you know the exact location/ boundary.
