there is no doubt that the word chak is used in official revenue records to identify villages but it is same if you have to write a gender of boy in male category. the gender will not be part of name rather it is a category in which male is falling......

The word `Chak' is used in the basic Revenue Records held by Patwari. So its 100% official wherever applicable -  other than Punjab, other terminologies may be in use like Goth, Taluka in Sindh.

We do understand where you are coming from. Like we cannot write Lahore City while many would call it in local language as Lahore Shaher. That is because it is not officially in records like that so we cannot mark it on map as Lahore City. However, City of London is City of London because its an official name. Similarly, another example is Pind Dadan Khan, Chak Shahzad and there are many more. Similarly Chak falls into being officially recognized name of settlements and hence to be mapped as in similar way. Additional local names can be added of course as they are being added already as well.

Jabran Rafique
