First Google Map Maker Nepal-MapUps!!

Hello Mappers,

Let me share a good news with you that we are having Google Map Maker-MapUps on 8th December 2012(Kathmandu) and 15th December 2012 (Pokhara)- The first ever mapping events in Nepal sponsored by Google. All the enthusiastic mappers of this' Mapping Nepal community' forum are heartily invited!! .. be there and don't forget to bring your friends !

what I should to bring there? and how much money I should to pay for attending that event ? but I am not a engineer , not a designer and I am not a perfect map maker. may I join that event? please, answer me as soon as possible thank you

Wow, was waiting for this. but i have some questions:

=> Will Laptops or computers be provided at the event hall ( iam thinking to attend Ktm event)

=>What should i do in the event being a RER=Regional expert reviewer.

=> Can I attend the show for few hours only; i can hardly manage my time for full day on 8 dec.

=> i have some friends(crazy in mapping) working with OpenStreet Maps, can i invite them and bring with me ?

=> is it a kind of workshop, will someone from google train us about new technology of G-maps?

and,

=> what else, if i missed this event? will there be another events in recent future ?

Hi everyone, I came in touch with Raju ji during MapUp planning in Nepal. Glad to see so many of you actively contributing in G-Maps. I work as community manager at Google Developers Group (GDG) - Kathmandu https://developers.google.com/groups/chapter/104003514155874791868/

And I'm working closely with Google Maps Team to bring these MapUp events in Kathmandu & Pokhara . There are plans to bring another mapping event in near future as well. All info about MapUps in Nepal so far can be accessed at: http://ktmgtug.org/mapups (this page will be updated for future events)

Registration / Participation in the event is free of cost but one will need to submit the registration form in the website, this allows us to estimate no. of participants & accordingly will help us in event planning and food arrangement. 

To participate in Kathmandu MapUp please register at: http://ktmgtug.org/mapups/kathmandu

To Participate in Pokhara MapUp please register at: http://ktmgtug.org/mapups/pokhara

After excepted number of participants submit the registration form we will send emails with all the details about the event.

I have one request to Mapping Nepal Community regarding the event: Could you prepare a training session on Google Map Maker.

The session is :

12:00PM-1:30PM - Training on Google Map Maker  (please check http://ktmgtug.org/mapups for full agenda)

Since Mapping Nepal community is already expert in using Map Maker it will be better if one of you manage time for this session.

->Event is free. You need to submit the registration form. Please bring your laptop/extension cord and join in the event.

Bhim ji, allow me to answer your queries:

=> Will Laptops or computers be provided at the event hall ( iam thinking to attend Ktm event)

     -> Laptop/Computer is not available in the event. But, High B/W Internet will be available. Participants should bring their laptops for the event.

=>What should i do in the event being a RER=Regional expert reviewer.

     -> Can you manage time to present on Google Map Maker ? Or you could assist someone who presents the session. Also, you can advocate on the contribution made during second session of the event (viz.Hands on Contribution to Google Map Maker)

     -> It's your choice.

    -> Sure. Please send them link to the registration page as well. Would you convince them to contribute on G-Maps for a day ? :D

    -> yes its kind of workshop. No, since these are first phase events in G-Maps in Nepal i couldn't convince Googler to join in and train us. However, it is possible in future events & depends on the success of these two events. In first session of the event one of us (from GDG Kathmandu or Nepal Mapping Community) will provide training to participants on Google Map Maker. On the second sessions we will do hands on contribution to Maps.

   -> Yes, there will be future mapping events as well. What do you think about GDG Kathmandu & Mapping Nepal Community working together for organizing G-Map events in various places of Nepal ?

It sounds terrible that participants are required to bring their own laptop to experience Google's Map making event. Isn't there any way to arrange Laptops or Desktops for the participants at least for the day?

I'm interested to GMM, actually I'm not in Nepal. Would it be possible to attend the mapup event? I'm in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I would be thankful if someone/somebody help me to attend such events. In my free time I would love mapping.

This MapUps was already been Conducted on 2012. There is no any new MapUps events scheduled for Nepal now. we will inform you via this Forum if any new MapUps event been scheduled in the future.
