Hi everybody,

Excuse me for posting in English, as my Mongolian is not particularly good yet. I have noticed a lot of strange data for Mongolia in google maps, in particular

* a lot of monasteries and temples, and some ortoo stations are marked, although most of them probably have been unpopulated since the 1930s or so. Is there a way to remove them, or at least make clear that they are deserted/ ruined? Or a way to correct their names into something that looks less strange?
* Some sum centers that moved decades ago are still marked at their old position, e.g. Bayan here. This sum center (the real name is Burentogtoh) was moved to the Delgermoron river and is now here . Is there any way to fix this?
* Speaking of sum centers and real names, there also seem to be some inconsistencies in which names are used on the map. E.g. the center of Tumurbulag sum in Huvsgul is marked with "Jargalant" (here), which is rather misleading since for most locals Jargalant is actually this place. Again, any way to fix this?
* Last not least, is there a way to move places, like the strange Burentogtokh here?

Looking forwards to replies!

Rohit

Hi,
I agree your noticed features.

The GMaps use an old base map on background map which are developed before WWII by Russian cartography guys. I had noticed too a lot of monasteries and temples which are now removed from ground. Also, there is lot of wrong names of populated centers on the old base map.

In my opinion, we can not update the strange data from the background base-map.

Ulzii

I am afraid that some places are simply not user-editable, for example 'Dzagasata Dugan' (now known as Bürentogtoh) or all those other former temples, monasteries, horse relay stations. Probably, as Ulzii said, these places are from some different set of data. Not just of Russian origin though. Names like T'u-erh-t'u (commonly known as Hanh) are probably from (even older?) Chinese maps.

I also think some places need to be moved or removed, for example that strange other Bürentogtoh I mentioned above.

Maybe the best way would be to make google aware of the uselessness of much of their underlying data? I can't believe they couldn't do better, once they know there currently are some serious issues.
