This could be the reason why Malaysia which already had map data was
opened for editing on MapMaker, for google to acquire its own data.

Looks like MapMakers are becoming increasingly vital to googles plans!

Good find! I noticed it myself sometime in last week as well. I won't
wonder if even google will start selling maps and navigators in next
decade for areas opened in MM. This is for what they are concentrating
on getting their own map data from local users so they can produce
more products and enhance exisiting one's and even save money from
paying to TeleAtlas to aquire more map data. I thinknMicrosoft maps
have more detailed data for such countries like India Pakistan
Afghanistan etc...

I would say Google maps are better than microsoft maps for south Asian countries.

Yeah these could have been better as we are creating these for them. But i was talking about the details they already hold. It is very rich in Microsoft product which I even use to have in my higher school while using Encarta.
