Hi, I am new at Google mapmaker, and am wondering how to mark communities in rural Bolivia that do not have a "town" as such that can be outlined. For example, a certain valley is known as Umial, but there is really no town of Umial. The locals know the boundaries between these communities (creeks or ridges etc.), and they are even legally recognized communities in that they have community meetings and have a "Corregidor" which is like a low-grade sheriff for that community. Google maps has many of these communities on the maps (sometimes accurately located, sometimes not), but mapmaker doesnt show them. For example in Google maps, search "abras de ivio, bolivia" and you end up in the general area. My question is how to mark these communities in mapmaker. For example, how would I mark a valley as "Umial" without it looking like a town that is 10 km long and 3 km wide? Thanks!

Hi atnips,
From what you've mentioned above, it'd be apt to mark these
settlements as 'Locality' or 'Sub-Locality/Neighborhood'. You can also
mark the boundary of this settlement based on satellite imagery as per
your local knowledge.

Also, we have a variety of sources of data for Google Maps, including
user-contributed data, licensed data, or a combination of the two.
Hence, the discrepancy.

Please let me know if that solved your issue.

Thanks for the answer. I suppose these communities would be similar to a rural township in the USA. I have not been using the "Locality" attribute since the help section (http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=157003) calls a locality as "LocalityA locality is a region within a city." But I assume that this attribute could be used for small rural communities as a "stand-alone" attribute?

Yes atnips. Marking it as a 'Locality' is perfectly fine :)
