How to I start with google map,Is there i need to own a domain to to
research and development or I can do it in sites.google.com ..plz help

As a beginner just learn the basics from

http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=155406

Then sign in at

http://www.google.com/mapmaker

Find out your local place and zoom to see the details of your area.
Select the 'hybrid' option by pressing on the TAB available at the right top of the page.
Please identify the local POI that has not been marked in the map earlier and start mapping.
