Ulzii's Map Maker Fairs @ Mongolia

Dear Mappers,

One of our super users in Mongolia, Ulzii, has been working with a
small team of folks to organize Map Maker Fairs at local Universities
in December. He is a huge evangelist for creating a rich base map of
Mongolia on Google Maps, and particularly for getting all local
businesses on the map. He has advertised the Map Maker events he is
organizing on his Web site at http://latitude.mn/

The first event was held last week at Ulaanbaatar, and he's posted
photos and videos on his Web site and photos in this PicasaWeb album:

It's nice to see the students' interest in mapping their world --
Ulzii is helping create a new generation of mappers in Mongolia.
Hopefully well see several of them also participating in the Global
Mapping Competition that has launched today (separate announcement
forthcoming).

Ulzii will be running additional Map Maker training sessions on
December 21-23. Many thank to Ulzii for all his efforts!

Really nice job Ulzii! Congratulations and thank you.

If it is not too much trouble, I think it will be great if people organizing these parties post a brief summary after the event on the groups. It will be nice to share what went well and what did not, so that other organizers can benefit. It will also be good to get the feedback about Mapmaker and any new issues raised by the participants.

I'll also add a page to the Mapping Party site with links to some of

Dear All,

So far, we organized two fair at Mongolian University of Science &
Technology for GMM training events.

My recommendations are :

Be close work with student clubs of the local universities !!!

Contact local bloggers and community group moderators. They can
deliver your message to their members!! May be, you will receive
offers to provide geo-data from them. For example, I got bunch of
email from them who collected water users location and electric line
data.

Publish brochure & poster including event date, location, contact
address, and training brief.

You have to arrange at least one fair in computer lab. Student clubs
can help you to find computer lab & audiences because students must
deserve to
use their computer lab for obtaining knowledge from cutting edge
technology.

Double check publishing materials before it turn to final product on
printing house. For example, local advertisement company was printed
and hanged outdoor banner of the training with wrong date.

Tomorrow, we have one more fair at GIS computer lab of the local
university, and the training events will be hold on the 21,23-
Dec-2009. After these events, I will share my obtained experience.
