Thanks to Our Distinguished Mappers

Dear Mappers,

Today we sent an email to our top 100 Map Maker users to thank them
and show our appreciation by offering to send them a certificate to
help commemorate their mapping contributions.

This certificate program is something that I promised to initiate when
I first joined the community a few months back. With the U.S.
Thanksgiving holiday just 2 days away, if feels great to kick off this
program thanking our most distinguished mappers.

Based on feedback from this certificate program, we will repeat or
expand the program in the coming year.

Tough the PDF I received looks nice, I would much rather have gotten
something of actual value. Don't think I can eat that PDF file unless
I print it out and even then the ink would probably not digest very
well.

Even here in Iceland I can see the media has started using Google maps
all the time, and although it is gratifying to notice a road or
whatever on that map, that I actually traced I reach the conclusion
that our work is obviously creating a revenue stream for Google.

So if Google truly appreciates our work I believe it should be morally
obliged to give in return something of actual value instead of this
PDF file. I'm seriously starting to think why should I bother with
this ?

Maybe thats just me ?

I haven't received the plaque yet, I´m hoping that if it arrives it
will be made out of wood rather than plastic so I can get at least
some value out of it.

Though we are are all mapping because we want to.
I think if google wants to show thanks to mappers they could be
given free upgrades to Google Earth Pro that is far better
and wont cost Google.
