El caso de Culebra Ferry Terminal

Abro este hilo para informar sobre otro ejemplo de cómo se deberían nombrar lugares en Puerto Rico y su conflicto constante con los nombres en inglés. Específicamente que algunos lugares les ponen nombres ficticios en inglés por ser más congruente con el formato inglés de Map Maker, pero en realidad están rompiendo la filosofía de Map Maker de hacer las cosas bien.

While I recognize it is always best to have two primary names, it is also important to note that Culebra Ferry Terminal is not a name that "exists". It is a simple way to name a simple place and is easy for search engines to find. Thus, Obscure is a much better category. 

I will cite the Autoridad de Transporte Marítimo website which makes no mention of Culebra Ferry Terminal as a name. Also we have this photo of the Fajardo Ferry Terminal (http://goo.gl/d3kKV) which demonstrates the naming schemes used for these terminals and finally a simple Google search also reveals that the term "Culebra Ferry Terminal" rarely if ever appears as an actual term. Top hits are more for "culebra" "ferry" and "terminal" and "ferry terminal". 

The real reason I am debating this so much is because of the name that is "displayed" on Maps is one that is not recognized by anyone really. I would prefer that the Spanish name be the first choice to display, but Google automatically makes the selection for the English name. Even then, as revealed in this process of commenting and editing, the Map Maker works well enough that this name should not be allowed as the primary name.

Agree with the addition of the obscure English name. We need to work in bilingual mode within our edits. You could translate it literally as "Culebra Launch," but that terminology is very uncommon within English.

I think the important thing is the searchability of the feature. Can English people find it? Adding an English obscure translation doesn't break the spirit of the post it adds more information that is helpful.

Yes, I agree. What I cannot agree on is for the name to be classified as Primary/Local, which Map Maker requires you to classify one name per language as so. 

Also, search terms cannot be added to Map Maker, and Culebra Ferry Terminal is a search term. But like I said, I am not against it, I just don't want the English name to show up on the Map instead of the Spanish version. 

We could try giving these English terms a "Primary / Obscure" classification, what do y'all think?

Perhaps making an English and Spanish name that are both the same, and then adding the obscure English version? Yes, English people will read some Spanish on their map, but they can search for the English term.
