Map Maker Update - May 9, 2012

Hello Mappers,

Knock Knock! Time for some more improvements to make your Map Maker experience better and more fulfilling. So, lets have a look what we have in this release:

The Left pane gets aligned in the compact mode :

Earlier this year, the new user interface for Map Maker was launched. Quite a few mappers provided  feedback that the left panel is too wide and it was inconvenient to use Map Maker on a smaller screen.

With  the current release, we are launching a compact mode for Map Maker, that will kick in when screen size of computer is small. In this mode, all the panels and widgets on screen would shrink and the available space on screen would be used judiciously.

No more internal errors while changing address:

Earlier, while editing a feature and changing the address, used to sometimes give an error message and fail.

For example, sometimes changing the Street Name to any other as shown in the dropdown used to fail.

Directions are now retained while switching from Maps to Map Maker:

If you're using Maps and you notice something wrong with a business, directions, roads, or other features, you can easily edit the area by clicking the Edit in Google Map Maker option on the bottom right side of the Maps viewport.

Earlier, while doing this, only the Maps viewport used to be retained on Map Maker. However, now it'll also retain the Directions you’re viewing along with the Maps viewport.


Creation of road while clearing the Address details:

Deleting the automatically generated address information while creating a new road will no longer cause an Invalid Address error.

You can now delete any address information you're unsure of when you create a new road.

Working hours on the French version of the Map Maker is now 24 hour clock:

In France, since the hours are displayed with the 24 hour system (0 - 23), we’ve changed the working hours to the same pattern.


Corrected the extra place marked while deleting a feature:

While deleting a feature, the history panel will now only show the actual reason of deletion of the feature.

Earlier, there was an extra Place marked appearing along with the actual message.

Minor Category Change:

In case there is no existing category for a feature, you will see the default category as Unknown. 

Earlier, this was shown as Any.
