Hi everyone,

Seems like its good to get the ball rolling with this group by
starting a discussion on Maplets feature requests.

Currently I have the following planned:
- Better GPS support, especially for rotated or arbitrary maps such as
ski resorts
- Location sharing (using Google Latitude?)
- Adding personal notes or annotations (perhaps sharing and sending
notes to others?)
- [Website] The ability for anyone to add map or to edit GPS. This
will have to be curated and approved before making it live to all
users.

Feel free to add to this list!

What is needed to make a map GPS enabled?

I would like the option to turn off GPS by map so users can decide if/
when GPS is needed.

Hi Ron,

For a map to be tagged with GPS, it currently has to align with Google
Map's mercator projection which are many of the maps but not all. The
plan is to add GPS support for a wider range of maps.

By turning off GPS do you mean disabling the GPS tracking? Or to
remove GPS data completely? For the former, that feature is already
implemented and will be available in the upcoming version 2.1 release.

A couple of questions:

Is it currently possible to create maps with a transparency layer? That is, I would like to keep the Google Map (which I saw referenced in one answer) visible and only add information on top of that, e.g., trails, features, etc. from my additional "map"?

Are there any plans for going to an open source map providers, e.g., OpenStreetMaps? This may solve the transparency issue as I could use that information without running afoul of Google's copyrights.

Thanks!

Hi Charles,

In fact I'm not using and caching Google's map data at all.
OpenStreetMaps would be a nice addition but at the moment I'm
concentrating on adding the ability to add annotations (and sync?), as
well as better GPS support for all maps.

Regards,
Zai
