Come bike with me to discover the little-known University District Art Walk!
Gather Friday 7/18 at 5:30 at University Friends Meeting (4001 9th NE)
Help me use BIKES to enliven the University District Art Walk - which occurs the 3rd Friday of every month, from 5-8 pm!
I'm offering an easy bike ride along a 6-mile loop connecting the Art Walk venues. My particular interest is giving more public access to the art exhibits hosted by University Friends Meeting (Quaker), where I'm a member. We currently have a truly delightful group exhibit of "Haiku Comics" by 5 artist-poets. Our only regular open hours for the public are during Art Walk.
If you look at the
map on the U District Art Walk website, you'll see a list of 19 venues spread out between 40th and Ravenna - about 3 miles, or a 6 mile loop. This is too big a loop for an evening walk - but perfect for an easy bike ride. I am offering an easy-pace ride on Friday, July 18 starting at 5:30 at University Friends Meeting, 4001 9th NE, just half a block from the Burke Gilman. I'd love for NE Greenways folks to attend and spread the word.
Unfortunately, the Art Walk went to sleep during COVID, and is only slowly re-awakening. Active venues, in addition to ours, include Gargoyles on the Ave, Fancy Plants, Seattle Records, Nook and Cranny Books, Daisysky Studio and Seven Coffee. Many of the other listed venues have not been participating in Art Walk recently. Those include Jack Straw New Media Gallery, Kombit Cafe, the Burke Museum, Four Corners Art and Frame, Cafe Allegro, Cafe Solstice, and the Henry Art Gallery. If anyone in NE Greenways has connections with any of these, perhaps you could encourage them to stay open one Friday a month to participate in Art Walk. And if you're really excited about a lively Art Walk, you might recruit new venues as well - registering with the Art Walk is free.
Does this sound fun and interesting? if so, let me know!
