Subject: Group ride to Northgate Station!

As you know, October 2 is a very big day for North Seattle. Light rail is coming to Northgate and the new pedestrian bridge across I-5 will connect the station to Licton Springs, ALUV, Greenwood, and all neighborhoods west. The Department of Transportation will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony of this new bridge—the John Lewis Memorial Bridge — the morning of Saturday, October 2 (see the official invitation below).

Join your neighbors for a family-friendly bike ride to the bridge ceremony beginning at 10am.  See the attached map for when and where to meet up.
  • Coming from the south? Join the bike train at Hale's Ales in Ballard-Fremont before 9 a.m.
  • Coming from the west? Join up at Sandel Park before 9:30 a.m., as the bike train heads towards the station along N 100th Street.
  • Or just meet at North Seattle College before 10 a.m.

In addition to SDOT speeches, photo opps, a bike-centered scavenger hunt, and some free snacks and/or coffee, members of Seattle Neighborhood Greenways and the Aurora Reimagined Coalition will be handing out stickers, answering questions, and ready to talk about the future of transportation in North Seattle.

And Now, A Message from SDOT

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is excited to invite you to the grand opening celebration for the John Lewis Memorial Bridge (Northgate Ped/Bike Bridge) on Saturday, October 2!

SDOT will be hosting a series of speakers at the west end of the new bridge starting at 10 AM, followed by a ribbon cutting and community-led walk, roll, and bike ride towards Sound Transit’s new Link light rail station. With Link light rail service also beginning at the Northgate Station on October 2, you’re encouraged to try out the new transit options in the area. We hope you’ll join us to recognize all those who have made this project possible!

HOW TO STAY SAFE & ENJOY THE EVENT – COVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
SDOT will be following public health requirements for COVID-19, including having all City staff wearing masks at the event. According to the Governor’s current mandate, guests must wear masks at all outdoor events regardless of vaccination status. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing throughout the event to keep everyone safe, healthy, and comfortable. Thank you.

Getting there
Walking, biking, or using public transportation is strongly recommended. Sound Transit’s Link light rail begins operating on October 2. You can learn more about Sound Transit’s newest stations by visiting northgatelink.com. Metro routes also serve this location; you can plan your trip by visiting tripplanner.kingcounty.gov. There will be bike parking available; try out a route using neighborhood greenways and protected bike lanes. Parking will be available in the North Lot at North Seattle College.

We hope to see you there!
