Hello All. ICYMI, we wanted to forward the December Newsletter. We used the last newsletter of 2023 to highlight some wins for road safety and thank the amazing volunteers for all of their support this last year.

If you have any questions or ideas of content you'd like to see in future newsletters, don't hesitate to reach out.

Hope the first week of 2024 is wrapping up well for you.

December 2023 Newsletter
Volunteer Powered. Volunteer Led. Volunteer Focused.
When given the opportunity we regularly rave about the volunteer-powered nature of Seattle Neighborhood Greenways. Volunteer energy powers everything we do. From our organizing efforts around hyper-local projects that impact getting around neighborhoods to creating city-wide awareness about important safety issues, we couldn’t succeed without volunteers.

This year in particular, volunteers went a step above and beyond to help Seattle Neighborhood Greenways continue to grow and thrive, leading key projects and lending staff a hand as members of our team welcomed new family members to the world and brought on new team members to help the organization grow into the future.

A few noteworthy volunteer-led projects we wanted to highlight include:

The Bailey Gatzert Elementary Walking School Bus helped get more kids walking to school than ever before. Thank you Central Seattle Greenways for leading these efforts.

Vision Zero World Day of Remembrance Walking Vigil on Aurora Ave N which helped bring a deeply human connection to the number of lives lost each year on the roadway. Thank you Aurora Reimaged Coalition for organizing community and media around this important day.

Downtown Water-Side Waterfront Trail connection between the new waterfront trail and the existing Elliott Bay trail. Thank you Downtown and Central Seattle Greenways for spreading the word and getting neighbors involved to create a seamless walking, biking, and rolling experience on the redesigned waterfront.

I-90 Trail Connection to the Rainier Valley Greenways enables safer connections to Central and North Seattle Greenways along with Eastside cities. Thank you Rainier Valley Greenways for demanding equitable access to the city’s growing system of bike infrastructure.

West Marginal Way protected bike lanes. Thank you West Seattle Bike Connections for the ongoing support of this important project and for helping guide it to the finish line after many months.

Volunteers make SNG stronger and geared towards outcomes that benefit the community. To everyone who helped in small and large ways, thank you. The success of our movement continues to be held up by our shared vision for a Seattle that is a great place to walk, bike, and live.

Help Us Start Strong in the New Year
"I've been following your organization for a while and decided now it is time to financially support it as well."

"I realized it was the end of the year and I hadn’t made my gift to Seattle Neighborhood Greenways yet!"

Sound familiar? Now is the time to give the gift of safer streets to our community!

Donate by December 31 to help us start strong in the New Year!

Together we can build on our progress and bring sidewalks, protected bike lanes, safe crosswalks, and pedestrianized streets to every neighborhood. If you’ve already made your year-end gift, thank you!

Safe Streets Construction Galore
With Move Seattle funding wrapping up this next year SDOT has been very busy with new projects across the city.

See what’s been completed this year and what’s to come in 2024 on our blog.

Bigger, Wider Water-side Trail Connection
Together we succeeded in advocating to the city to widen the new water-side trail connection from 10' to 12’ wide!

This new bike lane with bollards and concrete barriers will protect riders and provide enough space to accommodate people using pedicabs, adaptive cycles, cargo bikes, and family bikes which tend to be wider than standard bikes.
