When given the opportunity we regularly rave about the volunteer-powered nature of Seattle Neighborhood Greenways. Volunteer energy powers everything we do. From our organizing efforts around hyper-local projects that impact getting around neighborhoods to creating city-wide awareness about important safety issues, we couldn’t succeed without volunteers.
This year in particular, volunteers went a step above and beyond to help Seattle Neighborhood Greenways continue to grow and thrive, leading key projects and lending staff a hand as members of our team welcomed new family members to the world and brought on new team members to help the organization grow into the future.
A few noteworthy volunteer-led projects we wanted to highlight include:
The Bailey Gatzert Elementary Walking School Bus helped get more kids walking to school than ever before. Thank you Central Seattle Greenways for leading these efforts.
Vision Zero World Day of Remembrance Walking Vigil on Aurora Ave N which helped bring a deeply human connection to the number of lives lost each year on the roadway. Thank you Aurora Reimaged Coalition for organizing community and media around this important day.
Downtown Water-Side Waterfront Trail connection between the new waterfront trail and the existing Elliott Bay trail. Thank you Downtown and Central Seattle Greenways for spreading the word and getting neighbors involved to create a seamless walking, biking, and rolling experience on the redesigned waterfront.
I-90 Trail Connection to the Rainier Valley Greenways enables safer connections to Central and North Seattle Greenways along with Eastside cities. Thank you Rainier Valley Greenways for demanding equitable access to the city’s growing system of bike infrastructure.
West Marginal Way protected bike lanes. Thank you West Seattle Bike Connections for the ongoing support of this important project and for helping guide it to the finish line after many months.
Volunteers make SNG stronger and geared towards outcomes that benefit the community. To everyone who helped in small and large ways, thank you. The success of our movement continues to be held up by our shared vision for a Seattle that is a great place to walk, bike, and live.
