Hi All,
I am just wondering if anyone knows the author of the combiner-241.mbx
that I found on directionsmag.com at http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/245.
His name is Larry Nolan and I tried emailing both email addresses that
were on the site. Both bounced.
The reason I ask is that I have been doing a lot of translations
recently from SHP to TAB and wish to combine all the output tables
together. I am talking 100s of tables. I stumbled across
combiner-241.mbx but would like to make some additional options. My
programming skills are virtually non-existent otherwise I would start
from scratch. I am wondering if anyone could point me in the direction
to get started.
I like the layout of this mbx as it asks for .scr files of the list of
files that you want to combine which suits my situation perfectly. i
don't want to have to open hundreds of files. I would however like to
add a sort function to the dialog box if possible with an option to
choose which field to sort.
I also have lots to do and so if its possible to say use this scr file
to create this table output in this folder and just input txt files or
something to that effect.
I have been playing around with python alot lately with geoprocessing
and stuff in ARCGIS and am wondering whether it has the same sort of
connection with mapinfo or not.
I would like to work out a way to do it in python, otherwise if
someone could point me on the write track to adding a sort option to
the existing dialog box.

Thanks in advance for any responses. I will upload combiner-241.mbx so
people can see what im talking about or you can find it at
http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/245.

Sian,

Have you also checked out append2.mbx?
http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/174

I find this very handy for batch appending files

Russell,
I hadn't seen append2.mbx actually. i had something similar to that
one but you had to be within mapinfo with all the files open. Append2
sounds like it could do the trick. Will have to wait til Monday to
find out as don't have the data or the software at home and its Friday
night.
Thanks for your prompt response.

Anyone else?

Sian:)
