i use ogr2ogr to convert to shp (from mapbasic)
Something like?
ogr2ogr.exe -overwrite -f "MapInfo File" "test.kml"
http://www.gdal.org/ogr2ogr.html
DenCop
The other option would be to convert to shapefile and then open this in MapInfo and save as a MapInfo Tabfile. Search Google for 'kml to shapefile converter' and there's lots of links to free stuff that you can use.

I’m pretty sure that the newer versions of MapInfo (not sure from what version) can open KML files through File > Open Universal Data. Once open in MapInfo you can save them as a native MapInfo tab file with ‘Save Copy As…’.
