I have a layout with 2 data frames. The main data frame is a zoomed
in area, then there is also an inset map which shows the entire study
area with an overview layer. This Overview layer has the top left/
bottom right extents of the zoomed in data frame. At present, this
overview layer is manually changed when the zoom extents change. I
have around 30 separate views to do.

I am still in the initial stages of creating the layout, and I know
that there must be some tool out there that will automate this process
for me. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Simon,

Not sure if this will help any, but have you looked at using the
Overview tool that comes with MapInfo? This tool will open a new map
window and show the extents of an associated map window within it.

Thanks for pointing that out - a handy tool and kind of does what I
want - However, it lacks a few things. You can select a layer to put
the overview extents onto, however, you then have to manually add
addtional layers in to tart it up.I would prefer to click a button and
it gives me an extents polygon which I could then display in my pre-
prepared inset map. Any pointers?

Im being stupid - I can copy the overview polygon from the cosmetic
layer to a new map window (i.e. Inset Map window)
