Hi everyone,
Just joined this forum group recently, I keep getting this error
message 'These features cannot be represented in a single UTM zone'
everytime I try to export my gdb file from Mapsource Version 6.0 into
a dxf file format. The idea is to use UTM coordinate system instead
of
Lat Long.
Looking forward to having your helpful feed backs on the topic!
Thanks in advance

Hi,

This is probably because your data span more than one UTM zone.

You can see UTM zones here:

This list most have a very good reputation if people ask questions about a Geodatabase, MapSource and DXF in our MapInfo Forum :-)

Since it's a MapInfo forum . . . ,
You can project all your data into a single UTM zone within MapInfo.  I presume that you have a map area for which you prefer to use a grid, or you're working in an area that laps some small distance beyond the boundary of a zone.  Distortion of scale develops at the margins.  So be it.

If I were doing it, I'd bring all the data in as lat-long, then reproject the window, then update my columns for eastings and northings to get the coordinates of points using the single UTM zone. (Open the Mapbasic window and type, without quotes, "Set Coordsys Window FrontWindow()"  )  This sort of thing is done mostly for storing data.  Example:  a U.S. state, Hawaii, extends across a zone boundary.  (It is a long state, east-west).  The GIS depository for Hawaii has chosen to store all their data in UTM zone 4, despite part of the state being in zone 5.

Your problem sounds to me as if you're trying to export directly to a different zone than that of the data. Do it the other way 'round.  Project your data correctly and then reproject it within the GIS you're using.
