I have mapped a 37km long pipeline in MapInfo and would like to plot a
series of features along the pipeline using a number of different
symbols. The only reference I have for the features is their distance
along the pipeline in metres in an excel spreadsheet. Does anyone
have any idea how to do this?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Not personally - Apart from using the ruler and measuring along the
pipeline manually!

You could draw you're pipeline in segments create a field for the length and update the column for these segments.
or update your field manually with the help of your spreedsheets.

if you add other field your could always do some thematic mapping.

You could also have labels for each of your segments.

Zentus,

There are a few tools that you might be able to use:

plinedis2-110.zip - Locates a point a specified distance along a line.
Demonstrates two methods ...

Split Polyline at specified length(Update v 1.2)

distmark-51.zip - Designed to place points along a line at a predefined
distance.

I have the answer

Use the attached tool
Create marker point every 1m along pipe line
Then use an sql query to attach the xl spreadsheet data to the marker
table via the distance number
And use the condition where distancetopoint in the marker table matches
the distance in xl table
The only issue here is that only whole numbers can be used
So if your xl spreadsheet has decimals then make then whole
And if then you can live with a bit of error say to the nearest meter
then
