Dear all,
I have a few maps (pdf format) that I need to import into mapinfo. Can someone kindly advise if this is possible and how can I achieve this. I have MapInfo 9.5.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Victor

The replies to the original query have been scant, and I've been hoping to see more commentary--either from the original author or from other listers.

One obvious answer is to rasterize the pdf, which could be done in Adobe Photoshop or Corel's or other software equivalents. It could then be saved as tiff or jpeg or whatever.  Be sure to heighten the pixel density if needed, which may default to 72 dpi otherwise.  It could also be done in Illustrator by exporting to a raster format.  Once in raster version, it would require georegistering to make it imminently useful, unless simple viewing is the only desire.

But here's my question on this thread:  IS there any way to bring the "vectorized" input of a pdf file into MapInfo as editable linework?  Does a bezier curve translate to a gazillion nodes?  I'd never thought about doing it, so I haven't snooped around in the OPEN FILE formats to see what's possible.  Can a pdf file be run through some conversion to CAD and still have editable linework?

This is possible using the Canvas CAD program which will open a PDF in vector format.  It doesn't do a very good job with dashed or patterned lines though and brings the dashes in a separate objects.  I'm not sure how it would go with fill patterns.  There is a GIS version of Canvas that can open Tab files and write MIF files.  I used to use Canvas in the 90's for creating my maps before starting to use Mapinfo.  I keep a copy so I can open archived maps.  I don't have the GIS version of Canvas but can get linework from Canvas into Mapinfo Via DXF. Canvas is a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator in that it handles both raster and vector data well.

Cheers
