Hi list,

A colleague is trying to open a workspace in Proviewer 9.0 that was
created with MapInfo Professional 9.5, from a link of available
workspaces on a web page on our Intranet. The workspace and respective
tables are on a shared network drive.

Clicking on the link will open ProViewer but not the workspace. He
gets the following error message: "MapInfo Runtime can only be run
with a single MapBasic application". When clicking the OK button,
ProViewer shuts down.

There is no MapBasic applications within the workspace and we do not
have the MapInfo Runtime application.

Can you please give any advice on how we can open the workspace in
this way, as the web page links will be used by other people on our
internal network via ProViewer if we can get this to work.

Thanks
Chris

Chris,
We use ProViewer in a similar way without difficulty. Our setup is
just a local area network and double clicking on the desired workspace
on the server launches ProViewer with the workspace loaded. I've never
had to deal with the error message you have. I know this is of little
value in solving your problem. I just wanted to let you know that your
problem is solvable. Good luck.

Chris,

Create a shortcut that fires off the proviewer application then the
workspace.. For example in the target box of the shortcut put "c:\program
files\mapinfo\proviewer\mapinfor.exe" "c:\yourworkspace\yourworkspace.wor"
This way you can open multiple instances of proviewer. It sounds like the
user is attempting to open another workspace while another is already open.

Mark,
Thanks for your reply.
I have had a word with our IT guys and they are wondering what file
associations you have used to launch the ProViewer application, is it
just .wor or .tab also?
Thanks

Chris,

We use the shell execute function in windows to launch ProViewer. Our
routine simply asks windows to launch whatever program on the users
computer is associated with the selected file. The way this works out
on a computer with ProViewer and MiPro is that MiPro is launched
rather than ProViewer but that isn't an issue for us so we haven't
addressed it.
