Hello,

I have not used MapInfo for a while and now I have project in which I need to look at aerial images in TIFF format. I have the full licensed version of MapInfo 9.5.1, Release Build 70 in a n old XP laptop and In the past I used a utility georeg.mbx, which I purchased a long time ago and I still have it in that computer. When I try to use it I get the message:

Library migeoreg.DLL was not found. Unable to link to external library migeoreg.DLL

I will guess that that library should be stored somewhere, likely in the MapInfo directory but I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I seem to remember having issues after the last time I upgraded MapInfo many, many years ago.

My question is, where can I find the migeoreg.DLL file for my MapInfo version? Or, is there another, easier way to register the TIF file and create a TAB file?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Javier,

Can't give any advice about your georeg.mbx, but to register your tiff file open your image in MAPINFO and you will be prompted to either display or register your image. Select register button and then add your image control points and select your corresponding vector layer points. Note - this will overwrite any previous tab file that was created for the image. There are other options available for image processing such as reprojecting under OPTIONS - PREFERENCES - IMAGE PROCESSING, in V12 at least, not sure about V9.

Thanks

Javier,

Are they geo tiff files or just plain tiff images without any registration information.

Thanks you Mike,

They are *.tif files with a matching *.tfw registration file. As I indicated, in the pats I used the georeg.mbx utility but my version of MapInfo appears to be missing one file.

I have downloaded the trial version of MapInfo Pro 15.2 and I will see if it has the tools to do what I need; the interface seem to have changed quite a bit and I will have to figure out where everything is.

Javier, if the .tif and .tfw files have exactly the same name, just get MIPro to open the image. It will grab the coordinates from the .tfw automatically. You will have to choose the coordinate system though, as that is not included. If you look at the .tfw with NotePad, the coordinates may be within the range that you expect for a certain coordinate system (projection/datum).
