Hi List,
"The Microsoft Jet engine is not available for error information." This is the message I get when I start up MI. I run Win 7 64-bit with a 64-bit MS Office 2010. I have installed the 64-bit version of the Microsoft database engine , the Access Database redistributable 2010 and also tried the 32-bit Microsoft database engine without success. Does anyone have a solution?
Regards,
Mattias

Hi Mattias

Microsoft don't use the Jet engine any more.
This may indicate that you are using an old version of MapInfo?
What are you running?

Mattias,

Regardless of the Jet information, MapInfo Professional requires the 32-bit Access support to talk to it. 32-bit applications cannot talk directly to 64-bit software and vice versa. Microsoft has decided that only cannot install the 32-bit and 64-bit access engines on the same machine. They probably have COM ID conflicts. At least that is my guess.
So you cannot do this with teh 64-bit Office. Is there a reason you require the 64-bit Office?  For most people, this is not needed and causes all sorts of issues. For example, any Office extension written for 32-bit will not work. See MS technet for more details. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee681792.aspx. Or another user view.  http://windowssecrets.com/insider-tricks/good-reasons-not-to-install-64-bit-office-2010/

I too get this error message every time I startup ever since the first
install, maybe 12 months ago now.
Brand new installation of Win XP 64 bit on a brand new machine. Current
version is Mapinfo v11.04, with no version of Office installed anywhere
nearby.
I just ignore the error, click on ok and keep working. Works for me.

If you don't have Office installed, the the Professional install will put down the components for Access database support (32-bit) as part of the overall install. If you are getting a message  like this, something did not work correctly during install.  The component is also available at  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255

The new engine is called ACE for 64bit access there is no longer a JET engine. You need to install 32bit access drivers

the real fix is for MapInfo to become a 64 bit program.

Sounds more like a solution that needs a problem.
