It looks to be a problem with System.Xml, which I believe is part of the
.NET framework. Try reinstalling .NET, hopefully that will resolve the
issue.

Hi! I've encountered the same problem what Thomas described. I'm using windows 7 and now I've reinstalled .Net framework 4 and MapInfo runtime 10 with the hotfix (also tried to reinstall framework 3.5 which is a part of the operating system). Still MapInfo runtime application file has stopped working. Any suggestions?
Mapinfo 10 needs Net Framework 2.0Mapinfo 10.5 needs Net framework 3.0not sure on the current versions needing net frame work 3.5
Found a solution: Delete the "preferences.xml" found in %APPDATA% mapinfo folder.
