Hi all!

I have a problem I can't managed to solve yet. I have MapInfo 10.0
installed on my PC and I use it nearly every day. Yesterday the
program ran without any problems, but today, as I started it, an error
message appeared. "MapInfo Professional application file has stopped
working"

Description:

work. Can anyone offer me a solution? It would be much appreciated.

Hi Thomas,

It looks to be a problem with System.Xml, which I believe is part of the
.NET framework. Try reinstalling .NET, hopefully that will resolve the
issue.

Also, I've resolved some errors by making sure Windows was up to date
- install all the .NET updates if any are available.

MI Pro 10.0 requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Make sure that you have this installed

Hi! I've encountered the same problem what Thomas described. I'm using windows 7 and now I've reinstalled .Net framework 4 and MapInfo runtime 10 with the hotfix (also tried to reinstall framework 3.5 which is a part of the operating system). Still MapInfo runtime application file has stopped working. Any suggestions?

I verified that 3.5 SP1 is installed. The system is 64bit windows 7 if that matters.

I'm still struggling with this issue. I have no idea how I should continue fixing it.

Does the system log give some more details on exactly what is causing the problem?

Found a solution: Delete the "preferences.xml" found in %APPDATA% mapinfo folder.

For Suddhu and those still coming across this issue the "preferences.xml" file is found in:

C:\Users\"CurrentUser"\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo

Unfortunately this didn't work for me; the log indicates there may be an issue with a windows update or milang.dll file.

I can confirm this solution for MapInfo 10.0 on Windows 10. The file preferences.xml was empty, and seemed to have been changed during the minutes as some Windows Update ran, as it shut down all applications, including MapInfo.
