David,

The only “tool” I’ve found to do some of this is in MapCad.  It will move duplicate nodes in two different layers but I don’t think it will do more than two.

Clip from help file below ………

MoveDuplicateNodesMove duplicate Nodes in different Layers

Top Previous Next

Move identical nodes in different layers at the same time. All Layers that contain objects whose nodes you want to move have to be selectable.

Supported object types: Point, Line, Polyline, Polygon/Region, Rectangle

This command complements the MapInfo Professional Reshape command. It helps to avoid overlaps and gaps between overlying graphical objects in different layers.

MapInfo Professional’s Reshape command only lets you move nodes of one or more objects within the SAME layer. If nodes are supposed to be moved together with the identical nodes in one ore more neighboring objects, you have to select the appropriate option in the MapInfo Settings dialog (Options > Preferences > Map Window > Editing > Move Duplicate Nodes in > the Same Layer).

1.

Make sure all layers with objects that have common nodes with your main object are selectable.

2.

Make sure the MapInfo Professional snap mode is activated (if not, press the S-key).

3.

Select the Move duplicate Nodes in different Layers function.

4.

Snap to the node you want to move by left-clicking the mouse and move it to the new position, leaving the mouse button pressed. When you release the mouse button the other identical nodes in the other selectable layers move as well.

You can only move nodes from selectable layers

Read-only tables are not supported

Subject: [MI-L] Move objects in multiple tables simutaneously

Hi,

We have just received ortho photos of a property, and need to move some digitized layers to match the physical location.

Specifically:

Trenching program that was digitized with a handheld GPS that has the following tables:

Outline - polygon

Litho - polygons fully contained within the outline

Vein - lines

channels - lines

samples - points

structure - points

Simply put:  I need to select across the multiple tables for a slight shift and rotation.

I tried using Discover's transform function, using the outline to calculate the exact shift and rotation.  The problem with this is with a group of polygons such as the litho, it transforms each polygon individually instead of as a group.

Has anybody found a way to over-ride MI's inability to select from multiple tables?

Thanks,

David W.

A word of warning: your arbitrary shift and rotation will ruin the accuracy and traceability of the digitized data set. My guess is that you have a problem of mismatching geodetic systems if the mismatch is systematic across the area.
