Hello,

Is it possible to open freely available maps like google earth, bing imagery, etc on MapInfo pro 15.2.0.? If yes, please guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

The basemaps layer is excellent as an add on and is completely free.

You just need to go down to the version for Mapinfo 12.5+ and unzip it and load it into you Mapinfo session.
You can add it to autoload all the time so you dont have to keep adding it too.

If you are having problems in v15, this was discussed here:

Ed

But it is only road or line maps. I'm looking for a map with an aerial view to spot the plantations.
Thank you.

With regards to the original query, which asked about Bing or GE imagery . . . .
Are either of those freely available as georeferenced tile images?  You can get Bing free on Mapinfo Pro if holding a maintenance contract, $395 per year. That's about the only reason I have a maintenance contract anymore. I'd love to hear about free equivalent service.

Dear David,

I might sound silly. I'm quite new to the terminology and techniques when it comes to GIS. So please forgive my ignorance and could you please shed some light on this.
So are google earth imagery not freely available? Secondly, like in QGIS, which has an option to open layerplugins which opens upto bing, google maps, etc. (please refer attached screenshot) Is the same option available on MapInfo 15.2?
Thank you.

HI,

The basemaps link I sent allows for all those layers.

The Basemaps->Openstreet maps->OSM Mapnik will give you a map just like normal google maps (but from openstreetmaps.org which is more regularly updated)
and Basemaps->ESRI->ESRI World imagery will give you satellite photos.

Regards
Ed
