opening a ecw + ers file

hi everyone

I have a ecw +ers file
when I open the file on my computer with mapinfo 10 - the file open
registered
when my client opens te same file on his mapinfo 10 on his computer he
is asked to register the file


also when i converted Tab file to SHP file on my computer my client
couldn't open the SHP file.


we both have windows 7 professional on our computers

what could be the problem?

Hila,

Is your client opening the ECW directly or opening the associated TAB
file?

I've had this issue with clients myself.

You say "Open the ECW file" meaning File > Open open the tab file that
references the ECW file.

The client being "smarter" than you goes File > Open > Files of type >
Raster and opens the ECW file.

In the latter case you will get the register dialog.

If you've successfully registered the ECW then you'll have a generated
TAB file. You might want to send that through to your client as well.

Hi Hila,

In the first instance, have you installed MapImagery which will automatically read the registration information, where perhaps your client has not? It is a limitation of MapInfo which would be a great addition to a wish list, because the automatic registration of an orthorectified ECW is essential.

Can your client provide an error message received when the Shapefile could not be opened, as someone may be able to help with a bit more info. Where they asked for projection information? If they have MI 10, do you need to convert the file to a Shapefile?
