In the first instance, have you installed MapImagery which will automatically read the registration information, where perhaps your client has not? It is a limitation of MapInfo which would be a great addition to a wish list, because the automatic registration of an orthorectified ECW is essential.
Can your client provide an error message received when the Shapefile could not be opened, as someone may be able to help with a bit more info. Where they asked for projection information? If they have MI 10, do you need to convert the file to a Shapefile?
