Hello!

Fairly new MapInfo Professional user here. I am currently working on a
project that requires information from a .xls excel spreadsheet to be
imported into MI. there are columns in the spreadsheet for coordinates
as well as some supplementary information.

So far I have been able to import the spreadsheet into MI using: File
> Open > <select file> . I then plotted the points on the table
using : Table > create points from DDMMSS

My end goal is to be able to manipulate data in the Info Tool window
and have the point on the map change color when the data has been
manipulated. However, it appears that the method I have used has
created a "Read Only" table.

If someone could lend any insight or point me in the direction of some
supporting documentation that can solve this issue it would me most
appreciated.

Regards,

When you import excel into mapinfo, it is read only. File>save as>new file. Open new file and you may change as much as you want.

You could also check the box “Create copy in MapInfo format for read/write”  when you first import the table.  That will save you from having to use the “save as” feature.
