Dear list
I have a table with polygons. Some are lying one above the other. In some cases the smaller polygon lies under a large one so that you cant see or select it first.
How can i achieve it that the smaller one is on top and can be selected.
Thanks in advance.

Change the style to a see-through pattern (e.g. coarse dots with no background) and thick border. A style override will do.
Then use Ctrl+click to cycle through the polygons that overlap.

Hello Ross,

thank you for your post. I know this way to get to the but in my case  it could not be the solution.
First the Style cant be changed must be full style.
I am looking for a way to change the order.

Hi Hendrik!
No GIS can rely on a specific draw order for objects in the same table. If that seems necessary, the data structure must be revised. Do the overlapping polygons share the same attributes? Probably not. If they posess different attributes, the table could be split on those attributes and a draw order applied on the resulting layers.
Think of a land use layer. There you get no overlaps because an area cannot be farmland, forest and built area at the same time.

Try to order your table by the size of the polgyons but having the largest first in the result.
Then add this query result to the map.

Now MapInfo will draw the objects in the order of the query as it doesn't use the spatial index for queries.

The best possible way to overcome this issue, is to make an overlay file of the polygons that overlap..Hope that helps.

Hi Peter,
this sounds that the order is temporarily but cant be saved in the table permanatn
Am I right?

Hendrik,

It would be temporary for as long as the query exists. There’s no way to save a draw order to the table but you could save the query into a workspace so that it loads as a query every time.
