Hello, I and my team have a big issue with MIPro's connection to Sql Server databases hosted in Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

Our customers have MIPro installed on their desktop PCs.

Essentially they want to connect their MIPRO (installed on desktop PCs) to SQL server databases hosted in Microsoft Azure through an ODBC connection.

Our customers want to be able to open (from MIPro) SQL server tables hosted in Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

Precisely support team told me this connection is not supported!!

It's a great problem (ESRI supports it..).

Have any of you already faced the problem?

Any tip/suggestion to solve the question?

Many thanks in advance.

Michele

Michele

Have you tried connecting to SQL Server on Azure and using that connection from Pro?

From your description I can’t tell if there is a problem doing it or if the problem merely is that we say we don’t support it?

Hello Peter,
the problem is that Precisely told us there is no support for our issue and it's a great trouble for us..
MS Azure is widespread, it is a well-known and widely used cloud platform, it is hard to accept this answer (no support).
Thanks for your msg.

Hi Peter

A client of mine has the exact problem albeit on the ArcGIS ESRI platform where they do not support this type of linkage either.

What's wrong with the ODBC connection between SQL Server and MIPro via Azure? Why isn't it supported? What's the alternative solution that is supported?

Kind regards

Sheila

Hi

When we state something isn’t supported, it can be based on a few reasons; why may know that this feature hasn’t been built into the software or we simply  haven’t tested it.

That’s why I asked if Michele has tried creating and using such an ODBC connection.

We may say it’s not supported but it can still work.

Let me check internally too.

Hi again

We have done some initial testing which shows that MapInfo Pro should work with SQL Server on Azure.

If you run into any issues please let us know
