Is anyone else having trouble with the 32 bit MapInfo2Excel not working now?  I have office 2016 and it started giving me an error this week when I try to export:

It creates that file, gives the error, then opens the blank file without the data pasted in it.  Worked perfectly up to now.

I just spend some time with a partner on this yesterdays.

Apparently, Excel 2016 is just a bit slower in starting which prevent MapInfo2Excel to get a response in the short time after launching it.

I fixed this by adding a small wait time, currently set to half a second.

Let me get this fixed in the two versions of MapInfo2Excel and then put up a new version

Awesome, thanks!!!  Yeah, I could see it happening where the error would pop up just before Excel would start.

Could you copy this version of MapInfo2Excel.mbx into your folder with the current installation and see if this fixes the issue?

It has been compiled with MapBasic 12.5

If it does, I’ll use this as the new version to upload.

Thanks

The error still happens, but is closer to when Excel starts.

And now?

Maybe I need to incorporate the delay as a configurable value and not as a fixed value

No, it's still a second or so behind Excel when an instance is already open.  Even slower if Excel is starting the first time.

Does it work if you have Excel running with a new empty file before trying to export from Pro?

Hi Jim

Sorry, I got distracted by other things.

I have tried to modify MapInfo2Excel so that you can set you own Wait Time in the dialog just before sending the data to Excel.

This gives you the ability to try out some values to see if a higher value might fix the issue.

Please let me know how this works for you.

Unzip the attached file with the mbx and new language files into the folder where you already have MapInfo2Excel installed.

Once we have figured out that it can be fixed by setting the wait time, I’ll post the new version to the Community Download page.

Thanks for your patience

Not a problem, I really appreciate you working on it.  I am on a big deadline at the moment, but a quick test at the 0.5 worked with Excel already open.  I will test more scenario's later though.  I have a solid state hard drive, so my programs open pretty fast, so it might be good to leave the time setting in there for others(??).

Thanks,
Jim

The idea is the leave the ”Wait Time” field in for other users to benefit from.

As it seems this solution will work, I’ll try to get it wrapped up and update the help file and post a new version.

Might however take a while as I’m out and about all next week.

Thanks for the feedback sofar

Great tool. I've used it often.

I made a small tweak to the code you may want to consider for future versions.

In the MENUExportTableXLS_OKButton module.

' check selected output files is valid
    If not Right$(sNewFile,5)= ".xlsm" then
Note "Output file not valid. Please ensure file has extension .xlsm"
        Exit Sub
    End If

' check selected output folder exists
    If not FileExists(PathToDirectory$(sNewFile)) then
Note "Output folder does not exist. Please check."
        Exit Sub
    End If

Otherwise user will get an error message.

Cheers

And finally, a new version of MapInfo2Excel has been uploaded to Community Download:

http://communitydownloads.pbinsight.com/code-exchange/download/mapinfo2excel

Notice that this is the 32 bit version.

Next step is to make the similar changes to the 64 bit version.

Thanks, Kalu, for providing me with the code to check for file extension and output folder.

This has also been incorporated into this version

Hi Peter,
I get this error when I run the MapInfo 2 Excel program
Error: 305 (mi2excelmenu.mb:839) FormatDate$: argument 1 has invalid type.  MENUExportTableCSV

Do you know how I might resolve this error? My version of Excel is 365 ProPlus and I am using MI 16 64bit.  I also included a screen sot of where the error occurs in the XLSM file.  Seems it will not create the file for export into Excel however I really don't know for sure. I only say that because you can see in the background there is no file imported

Cheers, David

Hi David

Make sure that you are running v2.1: http://communitydownloads.pbinsight.com/code-exchange/download/mapinfo2excel-2.0-x64

It’s using a much faster and stable way to get the data from MapInfo Pro to Excel.

Let me know if this solves your problem

Yes that is the version I am using.  I tried increasing the wait time however I don't think that's the problem.  Maybe it's a permissions problem I am not sure.  I will continue to work with it to see if I can solve the issue.

Can you give the new version, 2.2, that I just have published a go?

You can find it here:

http://communitydownloads.pbinsight.com/code-exchange/download/mapinfo2excel-2.0-x64

I have included the same fixes that I earlier build into the 32 bit version.
