Select from multiple tables

Just wondering if someone could give me a hand - I have a bunch of
contour files (tiled, to keep the file size small). However, these
have to go through another program for processing, for which it'd be
much more convenient if there was just one file (saves opening &
editing multiple files). I have all the files imported & open in a
single map window, but I only seem to be able to select from one table
at a time (I was hoping to be able to select from multiple tables,
then save the output as a new *.tab file). Is this possible?

Forgive me if this is a bit simple, but I'm fairly new to Mapinfo. I
have had a poke around in the Mapinfo help files, but so far have had
no success.

Cheers,
Kate

Try using "append rows to table" and make one single file out of all the
others then save copy as the compiled file as a single entity.
The only stipulation in the process is that all files must have the same
number of columns with the same column names.

Look for append2 mbx. By far the fastest method of appending exactly similar
tables.

This is just a shot in the dark, as I haven't tried it, but....

What happens if you make the tiled tables into a seamless table, can you
then do a select from the seamless table ?

I remembered this MBX late yesterday. It allows you to append multiple
tables.
Let me know how you go or if you need more help.

Thanks for your help - I found the append2.mbx file & have merged them
all together. I tried the help file on creating seamless tables, but
it was a little above my basic knowledge - I haven't used MapBasic
before & couldn't figure out the commands.

In any case though, I have a solution!

Cheers,
Kate

Look at the seamless table manager tool, seammgr.mbx. It should be
listed in Tools->Tool Manager...

Seamless tables enable display of mutliple tables as a single
table/layer, but don't allow selecting from more than one of the
tables at the same time, which is what Kate required. They also can't
be used in Select or SQL Select, or browsed entirely.

Appending is the only way to go! Just have to ensure the common
structure of the tables.
